I'm over at
DC Metro Moms today talking about how I'm channeling Michael Keaton in one of his most memorable roles. NO - not
Beetlejuice. Although that
is the face I see in the mirror most mornings these days... I mean his stay at home dad movie. Drop by and let me know if you see any similarities.
UPDATE: Apparently this post was controversial. Didn't see that one coming... But I did get a "shame on you comment." I tried to follow up by apologizing, but maybe I'll wait to read the rest later when I've had time to thicken my skin... So if anyone else is offended - sorry in advance.
17 want some cake:
I just read it twice and I don't know why that guy was so offended.
Maybe guys just don't get it....
I just read it and left a comment. It's a great post, Kate.
He was a bit ridiculous. Some great imagery w/all 3 kids stuffed into the target cart while you're trying to recreate a display!
also, i can see your look of disappointment when you opened a bag of cheap cosmetics and fake lashes - why couldn't it have been the 3lb bag of M&Ms?
I totally wasn't offended. I did however, find that guy's blog header offensive! ugh!
I loved your post - of course!
I can't seem to get into the comment screen of DC Moms so I haven't read the critical assault but I can only say to that person, "Walk a mile in her shoes before you criticize". I think it's miraculous that all three kids are alive, healthy, and happy and that you can have a healthy perspective of the position you're in. There is no reason to berate yourself. Only that British Nanny on TV could do a better job and I believe she is not really human. I thought of you Sun. AM at Home Depot when I saw a cart with 2 rambunctious little ones perched in the baby seat and a larger child in the cart with a shell-shocked looking dad staring in vain at plumbing supplies. I envisioned the overflowing toilet at home never getting fixed DIY style. You are great and never forget it!
There are some men that are amazing "moms" (although I've yet to meet one that is better than a mom at the multitasking and pure mom's instinct) but for the most part, men just have different parenting skills than women which makes their Mr. Momness funny.
Boys are high energy and it sounds like you have a lot on your hands. I admire your courage to stay at home and deal with it all. It sounds like it is important that you are there.
It's so not easy raising children but somebody's got to do it.
We all could use some more tequila! Hopefully we'll have some together at Blogher if I get the courage to buy a ticket.
"gunfighter" was a little quick on the trigger. The piece is great and honest and endearingly funny.
I'm on my way over
You can't please everyone, or even most people. It was funny and sweet and true.
Oooh, controversy. You know that will bring us all over!
love your honesty and your ability to laugh at yourself. great post! besos!
I laughed, wasn't that the point. Humor is good medicine Kate.
I would happily be a stay at home dad, I don't see why anyone would be offended by this post?! I also noticed that the TV networks are starting to follow the stay at home dad trend with shows like "Real House Husbands"
P.s. I found your blog through the Bloggers Choice Awards and I voted for you, if you would like to vote for my educational blog you can vote here;

I thought it was a really honest and funny piece. I applaud honesty, especially when it comes to motherhood, because so much of what I heard before becoming a mother was vague. You really broke it down, and I like that:)
Hey, Kate! This is my first time visiting your blog and I liked this piece...isn't it awful when people offer you unsolicited "support and sympathy?"
Nothing worse.
Great blog, excited to read on!

Maybe he took it in a different way. .. or some communication problem? it's not offensive. but i'm no guy so I don't know how it look or sounded like in their perspective.
